How to build a reusable question bank

A maintainable method for classifying, reviewing and improving questions without creating duplicate chapter and language records.

Paper Maker Editorial Team · Published 22 July 2026 · Updated 6 August 2026

Define one taxonomy before importing questions

Agree on a single board, standard, subject, chapter and topic path. Alternate spellings such as Chemistry and Chemical Science may look harmless, but they split filters and create misleading counts. Translation labels should belong to the same canonical path.

Store both languages in one record

Separate English and Gujarati rows are difficult to keep aligned. One bilingual record makes option order, answer keys and explanations easier to compare and update.

Use a quality gate

A question should enter the active bank only after someone checks its syllabus placement, wording, answer, options, explanation and notation. Uncertain content should remain in review rather than appearing beside approved material.

  • Reject exact and near duplicates.
  • Reject objective questions with repeated or impossible options.
  • Reject questions that depend on a missing diagram or passage.
  • Record a source reference and review note.

Improve records instead of multiplying them

When a wording problem is found, correct the existing record and preserve its stable identity. Creating a second almost-identical question hides the correction and makes selection less reliable.
